COVID-19 Vaccination for Children Aged 5-11 Years
With the recent announcement of Health Canada approving the COVID vaccine for children aged 5-11 years, our office has received many calls from parents who wish to discuss this vaccine with Dr. Witt or Dr. Cellupica. While we appreciate people wishing to speak to their physicians directly, we are finding it difficult to schedule these appointments with the return to more in person visits, check-ups, and urgent calls about illness.
Both Dr. Witt and Dr. Cellupica support the Health Canada recommendation that children aged 5-11 years receive the COVID-19 vaccination. This decision is based on expert opinion, and is especially important as children in this age group have become the fastest growing population of people who are getting infected with COVID. While most children will experience a mild case, there are concerns that children can develop MIS-C which is a severe multisystem inflammatory condition, as well as the risk of developing more severe COVID or suffering long standing symptoms after infection. As well, it is important to have as many people vaccinated in our community so that we can limit the spread of this deadly virus and hopefully prevent any further lockdowns and the negative effect they have on children’s mental health and development.
If you wish more information specific to the COVID vaccine in children, or if you wish to have a consultation regarding the vaccine, please visit https://www.sickkids.ca/vaccineconsult where you can speak to someone by telephone appointment. Additional resources can be found at york.ca/COVID19VaccineInfo.

2021 Flu Clinic
Pivotal Kids Clinic is happy to announce our Annual Influenza Vaccine clinic. Similar to last year, we are going to run the clinic differently in order to keep everyone safe during the COVID pandemic.
We will hold the clinic on the dates and times listed below, and we require families to sign-up for a time prior to arriving, which can be done on our online booking system. If you have more than one child, please book the appointment under one child, and then call the clinic to let us know which of your other children will be coming at the same time. When it is your turn, please remember that we are only allowing one parent per child/children to enter the clinic, and ask that everyone over 4 years of age wear a mask. As per York Region Public Health guidelines, we will only be administering the flu vaccine to children. We ask that parents contact their primary care physician to arrange for their own flu shot.
When you enter the clinic, you will check-in first and your child/children will then receive their vaccine. We will not be able to assess your child prior to the vaccination, so if you are concerned your child may be unwell, please defer the vaccine for another day.
Only vaccine injections will be available this year, as the intranasal vaccine option is not being offered by Public Health.
Saturday Nov 20th, 1-4 pm
If your child has an in-clinic appointment and you would like them to receive the influenza vaccine at that time, that option is available to you.
For any other questions, please contact the clinic.
Stay safe and well!

Dear Families of Pivotal Kids Clinic,
We have made significant changes with respect to how our clinic will be running, effective March 23, 2020. This will allow us to maintain high quality care and keep everyone safe. We are still available to you.
Pivotal Kids remains physically open in order to provide essential services, including administering vaccinations and providing in-person appointments when physical examinations are deemed critical.
We have switched all routine and non-urgent visits to virtual visits (either via telephone or via an application that can be downloaded for free from www.reacts.com). This has been done to protect patients from unnecessary exposure to infection, and to help slow the spread of the virus.
For Scheduled Appointments:
We will be converting MOST scheduled appointments to virtual encounters using Reacts.com or via telephone.
We recommend that you visit www.reacts.com and download the software. This is a secure messaging software that is provided without cost to patients.
We will contact you (by email or phone) in advance of your appointment to arrange the visit and to obtain consent for a virtual visit.
Dr. Cellupica may call you from a Blocked/Unknown number/Private Caller ID. Please answer your phone!
Following a telephone conversation, if Dr. Cellupica thinks it is important that you be seen in person, then he will advise accordingly or possibly arrange for an in-person visit.
Possible In-Person Visits:
Well baby visits/vaccinations at pre-booked times.
Other visits: Only AFTER virtual consultation to determine need.
To keep everyone safe who attends office visits, please be aware that we are spacing appointments so that patients do not wait in the waiting room, and continuing to disinfect common areas and exam rooms using hospital-grade disinfectants.
Minimizing Risk of Exposure to ALL: Please DO NOT come to the office without calling first.
Do not come to the office without first having a virtual visit and approval to come and see Dr. Cellupica.
If Dr. Cellupica feels that your child may have a COVID-19 infection, he will direct you to an assessment center or to the ER. If you do not have symptoms of a COVID-19 infection, and Dr. Cellupica feels that it is appropriate, we will arrange to see you in clinic
Do not come to the office with any symptoms consistent with COVID-19. Symptoms such as fever/cough/shortness of breath for patients/caregivers/siblings.
When attending in-person visits, we will only allow one child and one parent/caregiver. Do not bring siblings to the clinic.
Under usual circumstances, as your child’s pediatrician, Dr. Cellupica would be pleased to see you in the office if your child is sick and coughing. However, given the current pandemic, we must be very strict on who can be seen in the office for the safety of all patients and staff alike.
Please note: In line with Public Health recommendations, we will NOT be assessing patients with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 in the office. We do not test for COVID-19 in our office. Currently, testing is only being done at assessment centers and in hospitals.
If a sick patient comes into our office and subsequently tests positive for COVID-19, our clinic would be exposed and need to shut down for 14 days. We are striving to avoid this situation so we can remain available to our patients throughout the pandemic.
We appreciate your patience as we navigate this difficult time.
We strongly recommend you maintain social distancing, limit your interaction with others especially in large groups. Wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your face. Stay healthy and take care of yourselves and each other. We are here for you!
Dr. Cellupica and the Pivotal Kids Clinic Staff
